Healthy Holiday Foods For Braces
Posted on November 6, 2017
The holidays are here! This is a time of celebration and goodwill for many. Along with the holiday cheer comes a lot of opportunities for really good food! For those of us wearing braces, however, holiday foods can be a challenge. Here are some great menu options for your holiday dinners.
Turkey, Fish, or Brisket: Protein-rich foods are an excellent source of phosphorus. Phosphorus is vital to mouth health, as it helps your body absorb calcium, strengthening teeth. Make sure the brisket is cooked fork-tender for a braces-friendly meal.
Mashed Potatoes or Latkes: Potatoes are a great way to get some savory flavor into your holiday. They are soft, and easy to clean away from teeth and braces. And delicious.
Fruit or Cheese: Thinly sliced fruit can be an excellent dessert for braces-wearers. If you can, try pairing seasonal fruits with a platter of holiday cheeses for an elegant spread full of calcium and nutrients. If cheeses aren’t a part of your holiday, try drizzling the fruit in white or dark chocolate.
Chocolate: Soft chocolate is a great way to do dessert for the holidays! Try a chocolate pudding, or a crispy chocolate meringue with whipped cream, or a good old-fashioned chocolate bar (no caramel, though!).
